Milwaukee Biz Journal hires manufacturing reporter

Tom Held has been hired as the manufacturing, travel and tourism reporter at the Milwaukee Business Journal.

Editor Mark Kass writes, “Tom, who will be joining us on Tuesday, spent more than 25 years with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel covering politics, education, transportation and business. He left the paper in 2011.

“He has spent the last three years as a freelancer, including as a writer for the Milwaukee Business Journal. He also wrote for The Chronicle of Philanthropy, Politco, Milwaukee Magazine and set up his own blog – The Active Pursuit. He was very active on social media promoting his blog and writing.

“I have known Tom for more than two decades and know he will be a great addition to our staff. He will bring experience, extensive knowledge of our community and an intense desire to tell stories that are important to our readers.”

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
