Nonprofits columnist Bob Miller, who has worked for the Dallas Morning News for the past 64 years, is retiring at the age of 91, write columnist Cheryl Hall.
Hall writes, “One of those guests flew in from Washington, D.C.: Sudeep Reddy, now 35 and an economics editor with The Wall Street Journal. He sat next to Miller from 2002 to 2006 while he worked at The News covering the energy beat.
“‘Bob often seemed like the youngest kid in the newsroom, even to those of us who were just barely adults,’ Reddy says. ‘I was always amazed by the volume of information Bob could pack into that head. I didn’t need a library or the Internet. I could just turn around and ask Bob a question. Like a human encyclopedia, he’d recite the full family tree of a prominent Dallasite or the long history of a local institution. I usually had to take notes to keep up.’
“No one is better versed in all things Miller than Laura Jacobus, our assistant business editor who’s been marshaling his column for 20 years.
“‘I’ve never known anyone who enjoyed his job more,’ Jacobus says. ‘Bob loves helping charities and has a natural curiosity that serves him well.'”
