Michigan paper cuts weekend stock listings

July 13, 2008

The Traverse City Record-Eagle is cutting its printed stock listings in the Sunday business section and making other changes to its coverage, writes business editor Bob O’Brien.

Record-EagleO’Brien writes, “A new weekly Sunday feature is ‘Money & Markets Extra’ from the Associated Press. It will highlight financial news and trends over the previous week and look at some of best and worst performances among stocks and mutual funds. It also will provide information on commodity markets, currency exchange rates, a review of the financial sectors, treasury price updates, financial advice and preview upcoming financial news for the week.

“The stock and mutual fund reports have been expanded and moved to the newspaper’s Web site, to provide an A-to-Z listing for almost 1,500 stocks and nearly 2,300 mutual funds, and highlight the top movers in each. Available data also includes individual company profiles, industry peers, growth patterns and more. That information is available on the newspaper’s Web home page or through www.record-eagle.com/stocks.

“Local news coverage also will be expanded in the Sunday Business section. The newspaper’s popular Business Memorandum column highlighting new businesses in the area, promotions and personnel announcements, relocations and other information will run each Sunday with other local business news items.”
