Miami Herald hires Kaiser to cover cruise industry, tourism

Anna Jean Kaiser

The Miami Herald has named Anna Jean Kaiser to cover the cruise industry and tourism for its business news desk.

She previously was a Report for America reporter at the paper covering economic mobility, focusing on economic recovery for low-wage workers in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Previously, Kaiser was based in Brazil where she covered politics, deforestation, public security and more for outlets like The Guardian, The Associated Press, The Economist, The Washington Post and The New York Times. She has also produced television, radio and documentaries for The BBC, CNN and CBS News.

Kaiser is originally from the San Francisco bay area and speaks Portuguese and Spanish. She has an M.A. in political reporting from Columbia Journalism School and earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
