Meyers named head of CNBC’s events business

CNBC senior vice president and editor in chief Nik Deogun sent out the following announcement on Thursday:

In the past few years, our live events business has blossomed with news-making conferences such as Delivering Alpha, The iCONIC Tour, The Cambridge Cyber Summit and Net/Net. In success, it has become clear that we need a dedicated team to support our efforts.

With that in mind, I am pleased to announce that Jonathan Meyers has been named General Manager and Senior Vice President of Events, reporting to me.  In this newly created role, Jonathan will be responsible for not only managing our existing conferences and partnerships but also for creating new events that strategically fit our editorial and business needs.

Dennis O’Brien will continue to serve as Executive Producer of conferences, reporting to Jonathan, while maintaining a dotted line to Managing Editor Nick Dunn on editorial matters.  Samantha Wright, Executive Producer of special projects, who has worked tirelessly with Dennis, Nick and me to make our events such an integral part of our enterprise, will continue to report to me with a dotted line to Jonathan for events that fall under his leadership.

Prior to this, Jonathan served as Senior Vice President of Strategy and Operations for CNBC Digital, overseeing the day-to-day Digital business operations including strategy, partnerships, analytics and marketing. He joined CNBC in 2010 as Vice President of Global Business Development. He previously worked at Forbes.com and Sony Music Entertainment. Jonathan holds a Juris Doctorate from Fordham University and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Columbia University.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
