The Memphis Business Journal has promoted Meagan Nichols to managing editor.

Editor Greg Akers writes, “She was previously associate editor of the publication that is celebrating its 40th year in 2019.

“Nichols joined MBJ in December 2014 as a reporter, where she primarily covered banking and commercial real estate.

“She was awarded first place for Best Investigative Reporting at the 2016 Tennessee Press Association’s State Press Awards for her MBJ story, ‘What Killed the Mall of Memphis Deal?’ That deep-dive piece centered on a failed property deal, multiple government agencies, some of the most powerful businesspeople in Memphis, and secretive meetings with possible sunshine law violations.

“‘Promoting Meagan Nichols to managing editor was a really easy decision,’ said Greg Akers, MBJ editor-in-chief. ‘She is a consummate professional who has excelled at everything she’s ever put her mind to do. The newsroom has long benefited from and will continue to benefit from her eye for detail, nose for news, and mind for innovation. I am so excited to see what Nichols can accomplish as managing editor and all of the ways MBJ’s readers will benefit from her leadership.'”
