Greg McCune, an editor in Chicago that is in charge of the Reuters America service, announced Friday that he is leaving the wire service after 29 years.
In a note to business journalism friends, McCune wrote:
I am writing to tell you that after 29 years, I am bidding fond farewell to Reuters. It has been a great run — journalist in four countries, with eight different job roles and countless compelling stories to keep me interested — most recently as Midwest editor for general news from Ohio to the Rocky Mountains and the Canadian border to the Rio Grande.
But all good things come to an end and I am excited, and a little nervous, about pursuing new opportunities. I draw inspiration from many of you who have weathered the media industry storm, reinvented yourselves and are flourishing. I may be calling on some of you for advice.
McCune, who has degrees from Kansas State and George Washington University, worked as a reporter for Reuters in Washington, London and Brussels. He was also the chief correspondent in Canada and the Washington news editor. He is also a past president of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers.
