McClatchy papers in Triangle shift biz beats

The (Raleigh) News & Observer and Durham Herald-Sun, papers owned by McClatchy Co., have overhauled how they will cover business and economics stories in the Research Triangle Park.

Zach Eanes, previously the lone business reporter for the Herald-Sun, will be covering real estate, both commercial and residential. He’ll cover big deals and write about trends.

Longtime Herald-Sun reporter Ray Gronberg will cover technology, entrepreneurship and the Research Triangle Park. Gronberg has previously covered education and local government, among other beats.

Craig Jarvis is covering what is being called “growing pains.” He’ll be focused on development on the fringes as Raleigh’s growth in particular pushes further and further out. He’ll look at major developments and the impact they’re having or will have on the area. His beat also encompasses the environment as so much development impacts the environment.

Richard Stradling is covering transportation issues that affect commuters, such as drivers, bus riders, bike riders, traffic and roads.

John Murawski is covering health and the business of wellness. He has been at The News & Observer since December 2004 and once covered energy.

“Obviously these beats will cover the Triangle, not just Raleigh or Durham, and at times the coverage could take us further afield as it always has,” said growth editor Mary Cornatzer.
