He replaces Alex Morales, who is now an editor at Bloomberg.
He has been covering Brexit and corporate finance since joining Bloomberg in June 2016.
He has previously written for The Times, The Sunday Times, The Independent, and The Northern Echo. He also worked as a fixer for Al-Jazeera in Paris and the BBC and ITV in Jersey.
Mayes holds an MA in journalism and international development from Sciences Po, Paris and a first-class BA in philosophy, politics and economics from Durham University.
