Associated Press business editor Brad Foss sent out the following announcement on Tuesday:
Colleagues:
It gives me great pleasure to announce that Scott Mayerowitz will become the department’s deputy business editor for storytelling.
In this new position, effective today, Scott will guide the department’s efforts to create more visually- and digitally-compelling stories, built on a foundation of strong reporting. Working with all of us — and a deputy business editor of newsgathering to be named soon — Scott will help create a more impactful, innovative and interesting Business News report.
Many of you have worked with Scott over the years and know first-hand the enthusiasm, creativity and collegiality he brings to the newsroom. As digital storytelling editor, Scott has upped our department’s game in video, social media and alternative approaches to reporting and writing. Scott has been a pioneer in experimenting with new technologies and platforms, including virtual reality, podcasting, Instagram stories and our own AP News app.
Going forward, Scott will lead department-wide training on everything from source-development to editing iPhone video, and he will play a larger role in advocating for ambitious journalism and unique story approaches that serve our customers and audience on every platform.
Before joining the AP in 2011 as an airlines reporter, Scott was a business and travel reporter and producer for ABC News in New York and a statehouse reporter for the Providence Journal in Rhode Island. As an airlines reporter, Scott distinguished himself by breaking news on his beat and producing top-notch enterprise stories that appealed to AP’s global audience.
Please join me in congratulating Scott on this well-deserved promotion.
