Massachusetts paper launches new business section on Monday

The Springfield Republican newspaper in Massachusetts announced Monday that it has launched a new business section for that day of the week, along with some other changes to the paper.

The new section, according to the paper, will include “beefed up coverage of Western Massachusetts, as well as a greater focus on the I-91 ‘knowledge corridor’ from Hartford north to Vermont. Business Monday also will include selected content from the outstanding Boston Business Journal.”

After seeing many daily papers drop standalone business sections in 2007 and 2008, some are beginning to reintroduce them for specific days. The Baltimore Sun, for example, brought back its Sunday business section in February and a standalone Tuesday section in June.

In June, the Yakima Herald-Republic in Washington state added a new Monday business section to its paper. However, the Augusta Chronicle dropped its Monday business tabloid in the same month.
