Mashable hires Nuñez as deputy tech editor

Michael Nunez

Mashable announced Wednesday that it has hired Michael Nuñez as its deputy technology editor.

Nuñez previously served as Gizmodo’s technology editor.

Nuñez will oversee the daily coverage on Mashable’s tech channel, one of the company’s core coverage areas, which has seen its audience more than double over the past year. He will also be a strong voice in Mashable’s reporting and commentary across all platforms.

“Michael is an incredibly talented reporter who speaks to a connected generation. He knows how to break important stories and tackle complicated topics. His distinct voice is a perfect fit for Mashable’s growing tech team, and we’re excited to welcome him aboard,” said Pete Pachal, Mashable’s technology editor.

Nuñez broke the story on Facebook’s use of journalists to curate the trending news section. Earlier in his career he served as the tech editor for Popular Science, associate editor for IBT Media, and assistant editor for Ink.

Former Mashable deputy tech editor Damon Beres was promoted to director of editorial programming last month to focus on its new vertical video product, Mashable Reels, as well as its best in class Snapchat Discover channel and Instagram stories.

Michael will be based in Mashable’s global headquarters in New York and starts on June 12. He will report to Pachal.
