MarketWatch.com editor in chief Jeremy Olshan posted Wednesday morning about its cryptocurrency coverage expansion, noting that its readers spent 1.1 million minutes looking at the price of Bitcoin in the past year.
Olshan writes, “In addition to sitting on our bitcoin quote page, you spent several million more minutes reading news and commentary about cryptocurrencies.
“Was this a productive use of our time? Was it overkill? Yes and no.
“If financial media proved anything this year, it’s that while only 21 million bitcoin can ever be mined, there’s no such limit to how much bitcoin can be opined.
“In fact, even though we hired a reporter to cover cryptocurrencies and blockchain exclusively (follow Aaron Hankin here), and launched our CryptoWatch dashboard, we haven’t provided you nearly enough news, data, analysis on cryptocurrencies and blockchain.
“To correct that, I am pleased to announce that MarketWatch now offers data on Ethereum, Ripple, Litecoin and other cryptocurrencies. The data feeds come from the Kraken exchange, and the new quote pages went live on the site Tuesday night.”
