JP Mangalindan, a contributing editor at Protocol, is among the 13 staffers who were laid off from the tech news publication.
He focused on large tech companies and tech culture.
Mangalindan had joined Protocol from Yahoo Finance, where covered the intersection of business and technology.
He previously worked at Mashable covering the giants of the social media world such as Facebook, Twitter, Tinder, Pinterest, Snapchat, WhatsApp and WeChat. He also was staff writer for Fortune, where for over five years he covered consumer-facing tech companies from Amazon and eBay to early-stage startups both online and for the magazine.
Before that, he served as editorial assistant at GQ magazine from 2007 to 2009 and freelance fact-checker at Fast Company from 2006 to 2007.
