Magnier hired to be U.S. correspondent for South China Morning Post

Mark Magnier

Mark Magnier has been hired by the South China Morning Post to be its U.S. correspondent in Washington.

Before joining the Post, he worked for the Wall Street Journal in China as an economics team leader in Beijing.

Before joining the Journal in early 2014, he was bureau chief in New Delhi, Beijing and Tokyo for the Los Angeles Times. In addition to his coverage of these Asian economic and political giants, he’s done extensive crisis reporting, camping out under Saddam Hussain’s bridges, covering suicide bombings in Israel, Pakistan and Afghanistan, suffering through bad soju in North Korea and sleeping in abandoned nunneries in East Timor.

He most recently was a Knight-Wallace fellow at the University of Michigan.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
