Kathleen Madigan, a former BusinessWeek writer, is joining Dow Jones Newswires as Big Picture columnist and economics writer, according to an internal e-mail on Monday.
Eduardo Kaplan and Madeline Lim wrote, “Kathleen’s hire will boost our economics coverage at a time when the U.S. and the global economies face severe strains that are bringing about long-lasting structural changes.
“Kathleen brings to her new position a wealth of experience from a long career in business journalism and the economics field: she worked as an economist at Townsend-Greenspan and at Manufacturers Hanover Trust before joining BusinessWeek, where she spent 18 years as business editor and co-wrote the Business Outlook column. She also wrote broad economics stories, including the cover story ‘After The Housing Boom,’ which was BusinessWeek’s best-selling newsstand cover in 2005.
“She left BusinessWeek in 2005 to join Lord Abbett as senior writer and market analyst.Â
“Kathleen has an MBA in Financial Economics from New York University and a BA in Journalism and Economics from Rider University. She starts Aug. 11 and reports to Madeleine.”
