Louisville Public Media appoints Bhat as data reporter

Suhail Bhat

Suhail Bhat has joined Louisville Public Media as a data reporter where he will be working with reporters and editors in all three news entities at Louisville Public Media — 89.3 WFPL, the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting and the Ohio Valley Resource.

He will be balancing different projects and investigations to produce explanatory graphics and interactive tools and analyzing relevant data sets and finding stories in data.

His new role begins Sept. 28.

Ohio Valley ReSource managing editor Jeff Young said:

“We are thrilled to have Suhail joining us. His work shows a commitment to high journalism standards, a deep curiosity about the world, and creativity in how we can use data to better tell the stories that matter.”

Bhat has also worked at Reuters for more than 3 years, joining as a correspondent. In this role, he reported on the stock markets of Australian and Southeast Asian economies, and wrote stock notes and published alerts to Reuters terminal on companies listed in these markets.

Later on, he served as sector specialist at Reuters covering breaking news, including earnings reports by North American companies and disclosures by regulators such as SEC, FDA and the CDC, among other tasks.

He has also served as business writer at Mumbai-based outlet Daily News & Analysis. He also covered central bank policies and economic indicators.

Bhat added:

Bhat holds a master’s degree in data journalism from Columbia University – Graduate School of Journalism.
