Louisville Business First has hired Michael L. Jones to report on economic development and growth, as well as covering government, diversity, equity and inclusion and restaurants.

Managing editor Jason Thomas reports, “Jones got his start in journalism in 1998 as a staff writer for LEO Weekly in Louisville, where he worked until 2003. Jones also was a contract writer for Insider Louisville from 2016 to 2019, and most recently worked as managing editor for APH Press, a division of the Louisville-based American Printing House for the Blind.

“Jones has a special interest in Louisville history and historical research methods. He published a book in 2014 called ‘Louisville Jug Music: From Earl McDonald to the National Jubilee,’ which won the Samuel Thomas Book Award for Best Local History.

“Jones is a co-author of ‘The Soulful Sounds of Derbytown,’ a history of Black music in Louisville, that is coming out on Butler Books next year.”
