Longtime Bloomberg journalist Wilson is retiring

David Wilson

David Wilson, who joined what was then Bloomberg Business News soon after it started, is retiring at the end of the year.

Wilson’s last day in the office will be Dec. 1. He will officially retire at the end of 2021.

Wilson most recently has been stocks editor for Bloomberg Television, on the air six times throughout the day.

Wilson has been at Bloomberg since October 1990, hired as its second stock markets reporter. He joined just three-and-a-half months after it published its first story.

Since then, he has been a bureau chief, global training manager, managing editor, columnist, an anchor on Bloomberg Radio, Chart of the Day writer. In January 2019, he joined Bloomberg Radio and started presenting a Stock of the Hour each weekday on Bloomberg Television.

From 2007-08, he wrote the Timshel column, a commentary on global business and market events, before developing the column into “Chart of the Day.” Wilson also co-authored an edition of “The Bloomberg Way,” Bloomberg’s in-house guide to business and financial journalism.

Prior to joining Bloomberg, Wilson worked for the Dow Jones News Service where he rose from news assistant to stock market reporter. His first reports chronicled the aftermath of the infamous “Black Monday” crash in 1987.

Wilson’s journalism career began at The Asbury Park Press as an editorial assistant and pop-music writer during his college years at Monmouth University. He holds a degree in English with a concentration in media studies, and a MBA from Rider University.

He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
