Erik Schatzker, a longtime Bloomberg journalist who has been the Canada bureau chief and also the team leader in New York overseeing Wall Street coverage, is leaving the news service side of the operations to join Bloomberg TV, which has seen a number of defections in recent weeks.
The move was announced internally at Bloomberg on Monday and confirmed by a number of its journalists.
Schatzker previously was a correspondent with Bridge News and opened its bureau in Santiago, Chile. He also worked for Bridge in Toronto prior to joining Bloomberg. Schatzker earned a B.A. in History from the University of Toronto in 1993.
Schatzker was also part of a team of eight Bloomberg reporters who won the Society of American Business Editors and Writers Best in Business award in 2006 for a series of stories called “Refco’s Ruin.” That series also won a Deadline Club Award.
Another one of the reporters on that team, Otis Bilodeau, will become the team leader overseeing Wall Street firms such as Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch. Bilodeau also oversees Bloomberg’s SEC coverage. The other banking coverage will be lead by Rick Green.
Among other departures, Bloomberg TV recently lost Nicole Petallides to the new Fox Business Network. She had been an anchor for “Bloomberg Business Report” and “Bloomberg Market Update.” In addition, Connell McShane also left Bloomberg TV for Fox Business Network. He had been an anchor and reporter on “Evening Edition,” “On the Markets” and “Marketweek.”
