Director of new media Doug Harbrecht is retiring from Kiplinger on Tuesday.
Harbrecht has led Kiplinger’s rapid growth online and in social media. Kiplinger.com is an award-winning site providing trusted, independent financial advice and business forecasts.
“For more than a decade, Doug has vigorously expanded Kiplinger.com into what it is today,” said Knight Kiplinger, editor in chief and president or Kiplinger, in a statement. “He has been instrumental in the significant growth in page views, unique visitors and revenue which, in 2016, made Kiplinger.com the most profitable division of our company.”
Harbrecht joined the Kiplinger team in 2006 from BusinessWeek.com, which he helped to launch. That site won the 2000 National Magazine Award for Editorial Excellence in New Media.
Before pioneering digital media strategy, Harbrecht enjoyed a distinguished print career as a Washington correspondent covering the White House, Congress, international economics and trade for BusinessWeek magazine.
He is a former president and treasurer of the National Press Club and former chairman of the Periodical Gallery of Congressional Correspondents on Capitol Hill. Harbrecht is a frequent speaker and commentator on television, radio and at conferences.
In retirement, Harbrecht plans to travel in the U.S. and internationally and continue his work educating journalists around the world.
