Longtime biz journalist Brooks selected for NABJ Hall of Fame

Rodney Brooks

Longtime business journalist Rodney Brooks has been selected for induction into the National Association of Black Journalists’ Hall of Fame.

The ceremony will take place on Dec. 4.

Brooks has written about retirement and economic and health disparities for U.S. News & World Report since 2019. His retirement columns have appeared in the Washington Post, USA Today, TheStreet and AARP’s Senior Planet. He is also a contributing writer at National Geographic, Next Avenue and ESPN’s The Undefeated.

Brooks is the author of several books, including “Fixing the Racial Wealth Gap: Racism and Discrimination Put Us Here, But This Is How We Can Save Future Generations,” which will be published in October 2021. He is co-author of “Retirement Planning Essentials: A Guide to Living Well Without Running Out of Money” and author of the e-book “Is One Million Dollars Enough: A Guide to Planning for and Living Through a Successful Retirement.”

Brooks retired as deputy managing editor for personal finance and retirement columnist for USA Today in 2015 after 30 years. Previously, he was an assistant business editor and reporter at the Philadelphia Inquirer. He has also worked as a reporter or editor for The Bulletin in Philadelphia, the Asheville Citizen-Times in North Carolina and the Ithaca Journal in New York.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
