Emily Nelson, U.S. coverage chief at The Wall Street Journal, sent out the following announcement on Monday morning:
I am thrilled to announce that Kate Linebaugh is named deputy U.S. news coverage chief. Kate’s ability to drive big news stories and her wonderful eye for storytelling are going to add so much to our coverage. Her recent work running our coverage of the shooting in Parkland, Fla., is just the latest example of her stellar leadership.
Kate joined U.S. News last year to lead our East Coast bureau and ushered in 12 months of hurricanes, shootings and protests. She has been the Journal for 13 years, starting in Hong Kong, stopping in Detroit, and coming to New York in 2011. She covered everything from Toyota sudden acceleration recall to General Electric to the 2004 Asian tsunami.
She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and went back to campus in 2007 for a Knight-Wallace fellowship. Kate lives in Brooklyn (where she is fast enough to secure a place in the Brooklyn half marathon) with her husband and 7-year-old son.
Please join me in congratulating Kate on her new role.
