Associated Press assistant business editor Philana Patterson sent out the following announcement:
Michael A. Lee will be leaving The Associated Press to return to Crain’s Detroit Business as managing editor. His last day will be Monday, September 21.
Mike had recently taken on the role of team leader for the Business Breaking News desk. Over several years as our lead morning assignment editor, Mike proved himself a critical first-responder on breaking news and routinely found opportunities to elevate coverage. He’s also taken a large role helping with retail, consumer and health news having previously managed those teams.
Mike came to the AP in 2007 from Crain’s Detroit Business, where he was deputy managing editor and general manager of its website.
Mike is unflappable in the face of challenges, generous and kind. I’m sure everyone will miss Mike as much as I will.
We’ll provide details on how we plan to fill Mike’s shoes as soon as possible.
