Michael Learmonth, who was laid off by the International Business Times last month, has been hired by Vice News as its news director.
He starts next week.
Learmonth had joined the International Business Times in June 2014 as its global technology editor and then took over media and culture coverage in October of that year.
Before joining the online website, Learmonth covered the intersection of technology, entertainment and marketing for Advertising Age, Business Insider, Variety and Reuters.
He also covered the first internet bubble in Silicon Valley at Metro Newspaper in San Jose, then chronicled its bursting at the late great magazine The Industry Standard.
