Layoffs at Bloomberg total 30, hit markets teams

Bloomberg has laid off approximately 30 journalists in Asia, Europe and the United States as part of a consolidation of its markets coverage and other newsroom changes, multiple sources have told Talking Biz News.

The layoffs were evenly spit across Asia, Europe and the Americas.

Bloomberg has been said to be combining some of the markets news teams with their First Word counterparts.

A Bloomberg spokesman declined to comment.

Among those who lost their jobs was Dan Kruger, who had been at Bloomberg for more than a decade and who had covered the bond market, and Michael Aneiro, who was an editor and previously worked at Barron’s and Dow Jones Newswires.

Rachel Layne, a reporter who had been at Bloomberg for nearly 20 years, was also laid off. She had covered United Technologies and General Electric and was working most recently with First Word.

Bloomberg last conducted layoffs in September 2015 when it cut approximately 55 positions in its Washington bureau and on its sports desk. It also had layoffs in August 2014.
