Lane promoted to chief content officer at Forbes

Randall Lane

Forbes magazine editor Randall Lane has been promoted to chief content officer.

In this new role, Lane will be responsible for editorial content across all platforms, focusing on integrating editorial content across digital and print, developing more editorial franchises and working with contributors and the Forbes editorial team to develop more multiplatform reporting.

He will continue to serve as the editor of Forbes magazine.

Since rejoining Forbes in 2011, Lane has helped the magazine and Forbes.com reach peak levels of readership, developed some of Forbes’ most successful franchises including Forbes’ 30 Under 30 and has delivered exclusive and deep-dive reporting on some of the world’s greatest business minds.

“Randall is a unique and talented leader at Forbes. A true innovator, he’s the creator of many of Forbes’ popular editorial franchises including Forbes’ 30 Under 30, the Forbes 400 Summit on Philanthropy and The Just 100,” said Mike Federle, CEO of Forbes Media, in a statement. “He’s the perfect fit for this position as we continue to expand globally, build new editorial initiatives, reach new audiences and evolve to adjust to changing consumer behaviors.”

Prior to joining Forbes Media, Lane co-founded and served as editor-in-chief of a half-dozen magazines and related websites, including P.O.V., Trader Monthly and Dealmaker. He was also an early member of The Daily Beast leadership team, serving as editor-at-large.

Lane began his career at Forbes in 1991, and served as reporter, staff writer and Washington bureau chief.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
