Dan Wilchins, editor in charge of banking and insurance companies at Reuters, issued the following staff departure announcement on Thursday:
It is with a heavy heart that I announce that Lauren Tara LaCapra will be leaving us to join Fusion, as an editor heading up their business coverage.
Lauren joined us in 2011 as a reporter covering Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, one of the hardest beats in the newsroom, and managed to kick butt from day one. In her first week here, she broke a story about Goldman laying off bond traders, and from there she only got better, breaking scores of stories about Wall Street reinventing itself in the wake of the financial crisis.
A few months ago, Lauren expressed interest in covering the intersection of technology and finance, a beat we happily created for her. But since then Fusion approached her with the chance to do something completely different – writing broad business coverage for Millennials — and completely digital, an area where she has long been looking to develop further.
In the last few days, Fusion made her an offer she could not refuse. We will miss Lauren deeply, and wish her nothing but the best of luck.
