The Los Angeles Times has hired Sammy Roth to cover energy.
He will start in December. “I feel so lucky to be able to return to LA and work with the amazing journalists at the Times,” wrote Roth on Twitter.
Roth is currently an energy and environment reporter at The Desert Sun in Palm Springs and the USA Today Network in Southern California.
Roth has reported on the solar, wind and geothermal industries, energy development on public lands, state and national climate policies and water scarcity in the West, among other topics.
He uncovered financial conflicts of interest at a public agency in Southern California, resulting in the cancellation of $80 million in solar and energy storage contracts and an investigation by the local district attorney.
Roth holds a bachelor’s degree in sustainable development from Columbia University.
