LA Times hires Bloomberg’s Sakoui to cover entertainment industry

The Los Angeles Times has hired Bloomberg News reporter Anousha Sakoui to cover the entertainment industry.

She will start Nov. 1. She will take the lead on coverage of labor in Hollywood as well as financing in the industry.

She joined Bloomberg News in 2014 to cover Hollywood and wrote about the business of film and entertainment, focusing on large media companies such as 21st Century Fox, Hollywood studios and exhibitors. In addition, she reported on global box office trends, deal making, as well as the rise digital streaming and virtual reality. She appeared on Bloomberg TV, spoke on Bloomberg Radio and contributed to BusinessWeek magazine.

Sakoui’s career in news began at the BBC in 2000, working in the business news unit for BBC television and radio programs, such as BBC Breakfast News, Today on Radio 4, and the World Service.

In reporting roles at Euroweek Magazine, where she was appointed assistant editor, and at the IFR, Sakoui wrote about the capital markets, bonds and loans, bankruptcy and restructuring.

She covered the financial crisis at Dow Jones & Co, writing about capital markets and corporate restructuring for the newswires and The Wall Street Journal.

Sakoui went on to work for the Financial Times in 2008 as part of the capital markets team. At the height of the crisis, she wrote about corporate fundraising in equity and debt capital markets, junk bonds and distressed debt as well as financial restructuring.

She covered the private equity and investment banking industry, and became the FT’s mergers and acquisitions correspondent, leading deal making coverage globally.
