Sara Catania, editorial director of digital media at NBC4 Los Angeles, sent out the following staff announcement:
I’m delighted to announce the newest member of the NBC4 digital team.
Many of you already know (and love) Sharon Bernstein, who worked with the web team last fall for several months on a temporary assignment.
Now she’s joining us permanently.
Sharon Bernstein’s lengthy and impressive run at the LA Times included stints as a reporter and editor covering business, politics, emergency preparedness, public health, media and culture. Sharon contributed to the paper’s Pulitzer Prize-winning coverage of the Southern California wildfires in 2004, breaking news in 1998 and the Northridge Earthquake in 1994.
Sharon has a master’s degree in journalism from UC Berkeley and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Washington University.
She’s scheduled to start on May 7 — just as soon as she wraps up a visiting professorship in business journalism at Arizona State University.
Once her training is complete she’ll be working 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, strengthening our weekend news coverage and social media presence, editing content and focusing on improving the overall quality of writing and reporting on the site.
Please join me in welcoming Sharon.
