Matt Kwong has been hired by New York Times Opinion as a producer for technology journalist Kara Swisher’s upcoming podcast.
He previously worked at NPR, where he was an editor and producer for “Morning Edition” and the daily news podcast “Up First.” Recently, he produced this piece for NPR on the 50th anniversary of Jimi Hendrix’s Electric Lady Studios in Greenwich Village, and this discussion with the astronaut Jessica Meir as she orbited the Earth in the International Space Station.
He also edited “Morning Edition’s” Minnesota coverage after the death of George Floyd while in police custody, including this interview with State Rep. Ruth Richardson and her 17-year-old son.
Kwong was previously with Canada’s public broadcaster, CBC News, where he covered the United States and Washington as a radio, digital and TV reporter — a job he describes as “explaining America to Canadians.”
He also covered the Pyeongchang and Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games for the CBC, and helped launch an English-language newspaper in Abu Dhabi.
