Kroll, Mother Jones’ dark money reporter, joining National Journal

Andy Kroll, the dark money reporter for Mother Jones magazine, is joining the National Journal.

We are very pleased to announce that we’ve hired Andy Kroll to join National Journal as a staff writer for the magazine. Andy is joining us from Mother Jones, where he has spent the past six years covering the financial crisis, Wall Street reform, and the “dark money” beat, as well as the 2010, 2012, and 2014 elections. You may remember Andy from his fantastic profile of Joaquin and Julian Castro in the magazine in January. That story is one of our most-read magazine features of the year, and is just one example of Andy’s work as a tireless reporter and talented long-form writer.

Andy will be arriving at a magazine that, in the past year, has been remade as a home for long-form narratives and essays about politics and Washington. In that time, the magazine has been nominated for a National Magazine Award (for the first time in ten years) and has published numerous well-read long-form features — including our newest cover story, “Why Can’t America Have Great Trains?” Andy’s first day is May 11. Please join us in welcoming him to the National Journal family.

Kroll worked in the DC bureau of Mother Jones. His work has also appeared at the Wall Street Journal, the Guardian, Men’s Journal, the American Prospect, and TomDispatch.com, where he’s an associate editor.
