He replaces Megan Murphy, who was named editor of Bloomberg Businessweek magazine on Thursday.
Kosova will be a senior executive editor and report to Marty Schenker, who oversees global coverage of politics, government and the economy.
In addition, Craig Gordon becomes an executive editor reporting to Kosova, and Michael Shepard becomes a managing editor reporting to Gordon.
Kosova has been head of the data visualization team in the Washington bureau. He joined Bloomber in 2011 as an assistant managing editor of Bloomberg Businessweek, overseeing its political coverage.
Kosova also worked at The Washington Post, where he has served as national politics editor since May 2010. Prior to that, he spent more than 15 years at Newsweek as a senior editor and held earlier posts at The New Republic and Washington City Paper.
Kosova is a graduate of University of Wisconsin-Madison.
