Ben Klayman

Joe White, global industry editor of autos at Reuters, sent out the following announcement on Monday:

Dear all,

I am delighted to announce that Ben Klayman will rejoin the Reuters global auto industry team as Detroit bureau chief, effective July 2.

Ben joined Reuters in 1998 and has held a variety of jobs in Detroit and Chicago. He led a team of six reporters covering heavy manufacturing, created a sports business beat, and did two stints covering the auto business, writing in depth about GM’s ignition switch scandal, Takata’s airbag recall and the efforts by U.S. automakers to expand in Asia and Latin America, among many subjects.

Since 2015, Ben has been editor-in-charge for Midwest general news, and for most of that time the West as well, overseeing coverage of politics, crime and social upheaval from the smoky Appalachians to the volcanoes of Hawaii.

In his new role, Ben will report to me and work with colleagues in the Americas, Europe and Asia. He will help drive coverage of the auto industry from the North Pole to Tierra del Fuego – including the ups and downs of the Detroit Three and the growing auto industries of Mexico and South America, and Detroit reporters Paul Lienert and Nick Carey will report to him.

Please join me in wishing him well.

Best,

Joe
