Ambrose comes to Kiplinger by way of AARP, where she served as Senior Editor and Writer for the Money Team. Prior to that, she was a personal finance columnist and financial reporter for the Baltimore Sun for over a decade, where she spearheaded an award-winning column covering taxes, investments, identity theft, college planning, retirement and other issues affecting family finances.
Earlier in her career, Ambrose was with the Indianapolis Star as assistant business editor and coordinated a team of reporters while reporting on personal finance, banking, insurance, retail, pharmaceuticals and real estate. She also contributed to the blog Consuming Interests with a focus on family finances.
“Eileen is an exceptional journalist with a long history of covering money issues and deep understanding of personal finances,” said editor Mark Solheim in a statement. “Our staff and our readers will greatly benefit from her expertise.”
Block joined Kiplinger in June 2012 from USA Today, where she was a reporter and personal finance columnist for more than 15 years.
Since joining the Kiplinger staff, Block has written stories on all aspects of personal finances, was lead writer and editor for Kiplinger’s annual “Best Places to Retire” cover stories, has been the lead writer for the annual Kiplinger Tax Map, which rates the states that are the most and least tax friendly for families and retirees, and contributed to the 2016 award-winning series on women and money. She is particularly busy during tax season, serving as Kiplinger’s resident tax expert.
“Sandra’s passion for all things finance, coupled with her ability to take extremely complex subjects and make them understandable and highly readable, have resulted in outstanding pieces in our magazine,” Solheim added. “We are fortunate for her leadership and congratulate her on a well-deserved promotion.”
In her new role as senior editor, Block will edit the ‘Ahead’ section of the magazine, and will continue to write about retirement, taxes and other personal finance topics.
