OLD Media Moves

Kentucky business paper to require subscriptions

July 18, 2010

A Lexington, Ky., bi-weekly business publication, Business Lexington, has announced it plans to begin requiring subscriptions, ending its practice of mailing the majority of issues to area businesses for free.

Scott Sloan of the Lexington Herald-Leader writes, “‘When we initially launched Business Lexington five years ago, it was more important for us to aggressively pursue readership than subscription revenue,’ said Publisher Chris Eddie of Smiley Pete, which also publishes the Chevy Chaser and Southsider magazines.

“Eddie said the move to subscriptions will occur over the next six to seven issues.

“‘It’s going to be done in stages, so certain people will continue to receive it longer than others,’ he said.

“Subscriptions cost $52 for a year, $86 for two years and $119 for three years. Subscribing also offers full online content at www,bizlex.com, e-mail updates and the publication’s Annual Book of Lists.”
