Bloomberg View announced Monday that Katie Benner will join the opinion and analysis site in September as a columnist covering technology, innovation and the cult and culture of Silicon Valley.
“Katie is a deeply resourceful writer with singular observations about all facets of the tech business,” said David Shipley, the senior executive editor of Bloomberg View, in a statement. “We’re looking forward to sharing her insights with the View’s global audience.”
Benner will be based in San Francisco. Before joining Bloomberg View, she was a staff writer for The Information. She previously worked for Fortune Magazine, theStreet.com and CNN/Money. In addition to tech, she has written about banks, hedge funds, private equity firms, and energy conglomerates.
She’s tackled Dell’s doomed turnaround plan, General Electric’s financial woes, Forbes’ troubled deal with Elevation Partners, the rise and fall of Buddy Fletcher and Ellen Pao, challenges facing hot startups like Palantir, and the evolution of the hardware maker Jawbone.
Benner has been a regular television and radio guest, and has given talks and moderated panels at a variety of conferences. She’s also a member of the Asian American Journalists Association, the Newswomen’s Club of New York, and the Society of American Business Editors and Writers. A graduate of Bowdoin College, she has lived and worked in Africa and Asia.
