Kansas named WSJ's European markets editor

Dave Kansas, the former editor of the Money & Markets section of The Wall Street Journal, has been named the paper’s European markets editor, according to an announcement Monday from Nik Deogun, deputy managing editor.

Deogun writes, “In this important assignment, Dave will write and direct stories on finance and markets from Europe’s financial center. In addition, he will help anchor the continued expansion of markets coverage on wsj.com, using his perch in London to help pull together a dynamic package of news, video and graphics for our global audience.

“Dave is a true pioneer of financial journalism in the electronic age. After reporting for the Journal for five years, he left to become founding editor of TheStreet.com.He returned to the Journal in Dec. 2001 as deputy managing editor of The Wall Street Journal Online before being appointed editor of Money & Investing, a post he held till early 2007.

“He most recently was President and Editor at Large of FiLife, a personal finance website owned by Dow Jones and IAC. In his spare time, Dave has authored a few books, including ‘The Wall Street Journal Guide to the End of Wall Street as We Know It.’

“Dave will start in his new post on Monday and will report to Bruce Orwall, the London bureau chief. He will also assist Bruce in managing the bureau and its reporters.”

Kansas is also a former Society of American Business Editors and Writers president.
