Chuck Barney of the Contra Costa Times in California profiles Fox Business Network anchor Jenna Lee, who calls the “anchor babe” label flattering but prefers to be known for her coverage of the financial meltdown.
Barney writes, “What Lee, 28, has relied on in recent weeks is her smarts, her hustle and her stamina to delve through one of the biggest, most mind-blowing business stories in years. As co-anchor (with Connell McShane) on ‘Fox Business Morning’ and a roving reporter, she has been logging piles of overtime hours as she helps her audience make sense of the mess on Wall Street.
“‘Oh my gosh, my life has been a complete blur lately,’ says Lee, who awakens at 1 a.m. every weekday in order to be on the set and rolling by 4 (Eastern). ‘It’s been crazy, but this is history in the making … and it’s a shining moment for business journalism.
“It’s also one tough story to crack.
“‘When (covering) a major earthquake or a flood or a fire, at least you have something to compare it to,’ she says. ‘But with this story, in many ways, has no precedent and you have a weird mixture of fact, fear and fiction. It’s difficult to wrap your arms around it, put it into context and balance the emotional aspects with the technical.'”
