Jacksonville paper names biz editor

September 14, 2008

Wayne Ezell, the reader advocate of the Florida Times-Union newspaper in Jacksonville, has been named the paper’s business editor.

Wayne EzellA story in Sunday’s paper stated, “‘We want to broaden and enhance our business coverage, and Wayne is the ideal person to lead an already strong team as we do that,’ said Frank Denton, editor of the Times-Union.

“The reader advocate position, which Ezell assumed three years ago, will not be filled. Key newsroom managers and others will assume most of the reader advocate functions.

“‘Wayne’s becoming business editor opens an opportunity for us to be responsive to readers in different but highly effective ways,’ Denton said. Plans for reconfiguring the reader advocate responsibilities will be announced soon, he said.

“‘Northeast Florida’s vibrant and growing business climate makes this an especially compelling job, and I look forward to what I know will be a rewarding opportunity,’ Ezell said.”
