Investopedia, a leading financial education website, is seeking an Executive Editor of News to oversee and lead its news division. As the Executive Editor of News, and reporting to the General Manager, you will be responsible for managing a team of staff, contractors, and freelancers to create compelling, accurate, and timely news articles that inform and engage our audience.

Millions of readers turn to Investopedia’s informative articles every day to explain complicated and intimidating financial concepts and decisions. Covering a range of topics from the definition of EBITDA, to ranking the best online brokers, to how to perform a Roth IRA rollover, to the basics of a covered call options strategy, Investopedia has it all.As the Executive Editor of News, you’ll execute on our vision of explaining the latest breaking financial news. People may first hear about a breaking story elsewhere, but they turn to Investopedia to understand what that news means for their wallets, their portfolios, and their families.
About Your Contributions
News Content Strategy and Direction:
- Collaborate with the General Manager to shape a comprehensive news strategy and develop the operational plan to execute on it.
Team Leadership
- Lead and inspire a team of journalists, reporters, editors, and freelancers, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
- Provide strategic guidance, feedback, and professional development opportunities to the news team.
- Oversee the recruitment, onboarding, and performance evaluation of news staff, ensuring a high-performing team.
News Content Planning And Production
- Develop news coverage plans and prioritize key topics.
- Manage the news budget with goals of predictability and efficiency.
Quality Assurance And Compliance
- Implement and enforce best practices for fact-checking, source verification, and attribution in news content.
- Ensure compliance with journalistic standards, legal guidelines, and industry regulations.
- Monitor user feedback, analytics, and performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and optimize news content strategies.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with other departments, such as marketing and product teams, to integrate news content into broader content initiatives.
- Work closely with social media and audience development teams to maximize the reach and impact of news content.
- Foster relationships with external partners, journalists, and industry experts to enhance Investopedia’s news coverage and credibility.
About You
- 10+ years of experience publishing financial markets news in a senior capacity.
- Strong knowledge of financial markets, industry trends, and regulatory developments.
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to distill complex information into clear and concise news articles.
- Proven experience in managing and balancing editorial budgets to provide positive impact to company goals and objectives
- Demonstrated leadership and team management abilities, with the aptitude to inspire and mentor a diverse team of writers and editors.
- Solid understanding of journalistic ethics, standards, and legal considerations
- Excellent time management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple demanding priorities
