IPI to hold forum on business relationship with media

The International Press Institute announced Thursday the first IPI Business Journalist Forum (IBJF), bringing together business executives and financial journalists to discuss one of the most debated issues of recent times –- the relationship between business and financial reporting.

The IBJF is scheduled to take place Nov. 12 and Nov. 13 in Baden, Austria, with business journalists and editors expected to attend along with executives, finance professionals, lawyers and academics.

“This is a rare opportunity for a vigorous discussion about the relationship between business and the media,” IPI Director David Dadge said in a statement. “Are journalists digging deep enough to tell the financial story and are businesses providing the necessary information for them to do so? When viewed together, are journalists and businesses doing enough to enable the public to make informed decisions about the financial world?”

Sessions include “The Future of Financial Journalism: Survival of the Specialist?” And, “Twittering Media: The Influence of Social Media on Business Journalism.” There will also be workshops on finance and legal issues. In addition, participants will be able to take part in a hands-on session examining the ethical dilemmas arising from the relationship between journalism and business.

The forum will also feature the launch of the IPI Business Reporting Award.
