International Biz Times hires data reporter

The International Business Times has hired Carla Astudillo as a data journalist.

Astudillo had been working for NJ.com and The Star-Ledger in Newark.

International Business Times editor Peter Goodman said, “We are delighted to add Carla’s formidable skills to our newsroom as we continue to explore new ways to tell our stories for our growing audience. Engaging visual exploration of data is a central part of our mission.”

Astudillo is a graduate of the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism and the University of Florida. She has worked at NJ.com since November 2013. Before that, she created interactive graphics for the Juvenile Justice Information Exchange.

She also worked as a data investigative intern for USA Today.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
