Ed Power is retiring as publisher of Inside Business, the Hampton Roads Business Journal in Virginia, on Dec. 11.
Butch Maier of Inside Business writes, “Power began his career with The Virginian-Pilot in 1981 as a part-time staff writer for the Virginia Beach Beacon. After two months, he was hired as a full-time reporter on the Norfolk staff, covering the police and fire departments. He then covered Norfolk City Hall for a year, and after that became one of the paper’s military reporters.
“After five years of reporting for The Pilot, Power joined The Philadelphia Inquirer as a staff writer, covering everything from politics and breaking news to assignments in the Philippines, Central America and the Caribbean.
“In 1989, Power returned to The Pilot as night metro editor.
“He later became the paper’s business editor and then the deputy managing editor, overseeing the paper’s political, business and military coverage, including the Richmond and Washington, D.C., reporters.
“In the mid-1990s, Power moved to the business side of the company, helping to launch Local News On Cable, where he became its first general manager.
“After a brief stint serving as chief operating officer for a Virginia Beach company in the late 1990s, he returned to The Pilot in 1999 as publisher of Inside Business and soon after that general manager of Pilot Targeted Media.”
