Indy biz columnist says goodbye

John Katzenberger, the former business columnist at the Indianapolis Star, wrote Sunday about his two decades in business journalism.

Katzenberger wrote, “When my first newspaper, the Columbus Republic, decided to start a business section in 1986, I wanted nothing to do with it.

“Business was boring, especially to a young reporter with a camera and the mandate to find news in the five counties around Bartholomew. Being hitched to a desk writing about business held no fascination for me, even in a town with two Fortune 500 companies.

“Shows what I knew.

“Within a few years I was lucky enough to land a job with the Indianapolis Business Journal, and I’ve enjoyed a 20-year run reporting on business in Central Indiana.

“For the past four years, The Indianapolis Star has given me this space to write about the city’s business community. I have met a lot of interesting people, heard many good stories and realized nearly every day that journalism jobs don’t get much better than this.”
