Bill Saporito, an assistant managing editor at Time magazine, has been hired by Inc. magazine.
He will be an editor at large, responsible for the lead section of Inc., and will also write features, says James Ledbetter, editor of Inc. He will start in April.
“Bill is the consummate professional prose machine, a guy who has done it all, from writing cover stories to top CEO interviews and editing a terrific business section week in and week out,” said Ledbetter in a telephone interview with Talking Biz News. “We couldn’t be more excited about having him come on board.”
As assistant managing editor of Time, Saporito oversees coverage of business, the economy, personal finance and sports. He joined Time in 1996 as a senior editor.
Most recently, Saporito has directed Time’s extensive coverage of the global financial crisis, writing and editing stories about the stock market, investing, the mortgage industry, the real estate bust, bank bailouts and the U.S. auto industry.
Previously Saporito was a senior editor at Fortune magazine, where he was a member of the publication’s board of editors. He began his career at the New York Daily News.
Saporito received a B.A. from Bucknell University and an M.A. from Syracuse University.
