The Rockford Register Star in Illinois named Jack Burke as its new business editor, according to a story in Saturday’s newspaper, replacing Adam Lowenstein.
Burke served as an assistant metro editor with the Register Star for nearly three years before being named Friday to the business post. He will direct business coverage in the newspaper and at rrstar.com.
“Our business coverage isn’t just about businesses, it’s about how we earn and spend our money,” said Burke, 39, in the story. “I want our coverage to better reflect that.”
Managing Editor Jeff Gauger said Burke outlined an exciting vision for improved business coverage.
Burke also has shown during his years in Rockford that he is adept at directing coverage, Gauger said, and his past experience as a top editor in smaller towns was a plus.
“A business editor must be highly visible in the community,” Gauger said. “Jack has been there before. He’s prepared to be there again.”
