BuzzFeed editor-in-chief Ben Smith to talk at CJF J-Talk

Ben Smith, editor-in-chief of BuzzFeed News, will be in conversation with Jayme Poisson, host of CBC podcast Front Burner

Ben Smith, BuzzFeed news editor-in-chief will be talking about the challenges of building an award-winning newsroom from a site best known for its lists, quizzes and viral videos at the next Canadian Journalism Foundation J-Talk.

Founded in 1990, The Canadian Journalism Foundation promotes, celebrates and facilitates excellence in journalism. The foundation runs a prestigious award and fellowship program featuring an industry gala where news leaders, journalists and corporate Canada gather to celebrate outstanding journalistic achievement and the value of professional journalism.

“BuzzFeed News has put out some incredible journalism in the last several years,” says Jayme Poisson, host of the CBC News podcast Front Burner, who will be in conversation with Smith.

Poisson adds: “They’ve also courted some controversy, and I’m looking forward to talking with Ben about the pivotal decisions he’s made along the way. And what the future of BuzzFeed News looks like.”

Since his hire, Smith has led the expansion of more than 20 content verticals and built journalism teams at its New York City headquarters and across the globe. Under his leadership, BuzzFeed News’s coverage has grown to include politics, business, investigative reporting, long-form journalism and entertainment.
