Kansas Star’s editor is promoted while publisher exits

The Kansas City Star has undergone a reshuffle at the top level with their editor put in charge of the publication and their former reporter joining The Eagle, according to reports.

Tony Berg had been the Publisher of The Star since 2016. Now, he has been moved to publisher of The Wichita Eagle, KCUR reports. Berg’s LinkedIn page also shows he stopped listing himself as regional publisher for The McClatchy Co.’s four-publication Central Division.

Mike Fannin, editor of The Star since 2008, has been named the president of the publication.

Other moves noted by KCUR include the announced departure of former Star editor and publisher Mark Zieman from McClatchy at the end of 2019.
